Ongha Secondary School
Ongha Secondary School is situated 30km north of Ondangwa town in Endola constituency. I have interviewed one of the teachers who have been in the school for almost 15 years now, Ms Shidolo and she has this to say about the school. The school was established in 1978 and its first principal was Mr Natanael Muahafa and it had only from standard six until standard ten. The second principal was Mr Dineinge Sheya, followed by Mr Simon Mutumbo, followed by Mr Andreas Amoomo and the current principal is Mr Simon Nghituwamata. The school has grown in the recent years as it now enrols learners from grade nine up to grade 12. The school has a total number of 780 learners and sixty employees. The school was established and controlled by the government and it is a boarding school. The school is turning 40 years this year and it will have a reunion scheduled to take place from the 28th of June until July 1st respectively. All the former learners and employees from the inception of the school and the current employees and learners are invited.
This school is one of the best performing schools in the country in both grade ten and twelve results. In the last year's result analysis, Ongha was ranked number one in the circuit and number two in the region. This is because the school has the most qualified and self-driven individuals. This does not rule out the individualistic of teachers and learners. The staff consists of young and vibrant teachers and they are very energetic to deliver quality lessons supplemented by the old squad.
The school also has several extramural activities such as sport, culture, and SCM. According to an article published in Confidente newspaper on August 3rd, 2016, Ongha Secondary School clinched the 2016 First Nationa Bank (FNB) Classic Clashes after beating Nehale Secondary School. This shows that Ongha Secondary does not only have academic prowess but also in sport. Nehale has beaten four goals to three on penalties. And Martin Mukumangeni was crowned man of the match for his brilliant keeping skills.
It was just on the 5th of April when our school was privileged enough to receive some delegates to inaugurate our sports' fields by Germany Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) which were revamped the previous year. It was a joyous day as our learners have a privilege to meet important delegates from the education fraternity like the Ohangwena Education Director Mr Isack Hamatwi as well as from sports fraternity, Mr Ricardo Manneti, the Brave Warriors head coach plus the deputy Minister of Sport, Honourable Agnes Tjongarero as shown in the following pictures.

In 2014, Ongha Secondary School produced the best performing learner in grade ten in the whole Ohangwena region. According to New Era newspaper on May 28th, 2014, Simeon Hango was crowned as the best learner in Ohangwena region and was awarded certificates and bags for scoring A- symbol in Accounting and Entrepreneurship. That year, Ongha Secondary School was ranked number 3 in the region, while Haimbili Secondary School and Mwadikange Kaulinge Secondary were ranked number one and two respectively.
I am one of the former learners of the above-mentioned school and I am currently working there as an English Second Language teacher from Grade 11-12. I am debted to my former teachers for the education they have instilled in me especially my former English teacher who was my inspirational though he advised me not to write extended, Mr /Avarab, my Mathematics teacher, Mr Rio Ndjiku who made me to love Mathematics and scored a C-symbol at Core level which is the highest as well as Ms Patricia Shavuka my Biology teacher and class teacher who is currently my colleague. Ongha Secondary School has the best quality education and produced different people who went to further their studies at our most prestigious universities in the country, Nust, and UNAM. Most of the former learners are doing something with their lives and someone can say 'they have made it in life'.
I am a proud product of the mighty Ongha Secondary School and if you want your child to receive the best secondary education do not hesitate to send your child to us.
